Birmingham Museums

Last Spring Term we worked with Birmingham Museums (Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery)
and 60 Year 4 students from Mansfield Green Academy.

In partnership with Birmingham Museums “Collecting Birmingham” programme,
were working on a wonderful project with Mansfield Green Academy.
Students curated and produced their own ‘Pop Up’ exhibition in school inspired by the city’s collections.
Through gallery visits, specially designed resources, drawing, photography
workshops and a launch event, students also achieved their Discover Arts Award.

LEARN

During the project students have an opportunity to :
Visit Birmingham Museum exploring the Faith Gallery and Past is Now Gallery
Learn about the artist Donald Rodney and his work Land of Milk and Honey II
Sketch objects from Birmingham Museums extensive collections working with artist Jacqui Grange
Discuss the personal meanings of the objects students brought in for their exhibition
Curate their own exhibition designing frames, writing curatorial tags and photographing their pieces
Create a log book of their activities with photos and reflections

ARTS AWARDS

Students have worked with Alice Halden – Birmingham Museums and Jacqui Grange – visual artist
creating the exhibition of their own personal collection of objects.

They have had visits and workshops and have made ‘Log Books’ documenting their work for Arts Award.
The work was installed in March 2019 for a grand opening by the Mayor of Birmingham and invited VIPs, parents and students.
